My name is Jessica Coonjbeharry. I am a student at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT)'s National Technical Institute of Technology (NTID) majoring in Administrative Support Technology (AST) pursuing my Associate in Applied Science degree. After I graduate, I will continue to pursue a bachelor’s degree in more depth within business field. I was born in Newark, New Jersey until I moved to Schenectady, New York when I was five. Growing up there, I’m the only Hard-of-Hearing person in the family. I lived with my parents and my little brother. My parents came to United States because they wanted to get to a better job and a better education.

When I was volunteering at my Mother’s company, I was able to help my mother to do things that she was supposed to finish herself. By finishing her work so quickly, she and her co-workers were very impressed, After I decided to have my passion is to make sure that everyone feel satisfied with the information or their needs and that was where I fell in love being in the office environment. I love to be very organized and help people as much as I can. That was why I’m going into AST. Moving to Schenectady was an interesting journey through out my life until I got here at RIT in the year of 2016. I thought it was interesting because there were so many opportunities that you can do and make new friends. When I first got here in summer 2015, I didn’t know that there were so many deaf and hard-of-hearing people like me. This is where I finally get to merged into the deaf world and find my identity.

Now I am a Vice President for Ebony Club which is for the People of Color (POC) to feel like they are home and their culture is here with us, too. I also work at the Global Village Post Office. This is another reason why I’m an organizer too. I personally see myself that I’m going to continue my education until I get what I want for myself. I also do want to move to Florida because it is in my heart since 2012.

This is the Project that I am doing for my Writing Seminar Class which my class and I were required to do. This box shows that my class was inspired by Joseph Cornell ‘s Box.  He was an American artist and film maker. He is one of the pioneers and most celebrated exponents of assemblage.

You may wonder why my box is purple. Yes, it is my favorite color, but it also represents ambition, extravagance, wisdom, loyalty and independence. Another reason why is because I am sensitive, compassionate, very understanding and supportive. I do think of others before myself and I want the person to feel they can be willing to come for my help. Also, I always need something to motivate me. I got the free spirit around me as well. The purple color always makes me feel like there is a sense of a great mystery.

I did mention previously about how I love to organize. Well, you see the paperclips in the box to separate the papers or the bunch of the pages. Each color represent the important thing to be aware of and the time that need to be done. For example, the red paperclip shows that it is an emergency which needs to be done as soon as possible. Another one is pink paperclip means it not an emergency and it can be taken care of soon. I use the paperclips because it helps me to not rush into every paper when it wasn’t even an emergency. It also helps me to be clean and polished at the same time. I make sure that I have the papers properly saved in their computer files and save them with as hard copies too. Whatever deemed appropriate.

After all of your observations on my Box Project, if you have any feedback for me to improve my project, please go to my website  https://jxc5013.wixsite.com/mysite/contact and leave a message there. Or, if you have Twitter, you can do that as well.
